ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Everything You Need to Know about the Jaguar Type 00
Jaguar made its first move towards an all-electric road car range by unveiling the Type 00 Vision Concept at Miami Art Week.
However, the unveiling of the concept car divided opinion.
Some said the Type 00 was “exciting” and “absolutely stunning” while others called it “rubbish” and told Jaguar’s designers to “go back to the drawing board”.
This followed a new logo, which sparked controversy.
The car manufacturer has had a ‘reset’ lately. In November 2024, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) stopped selling new Jaguars in the UK altogether, ahead of its relaunch as an electric-only brand in 2026.
While the foundations for the Type 00 were laid as early as 2021, the British brand already had a head start in terms of EV performance cars.
Entering Formula E ahead of most manufacturers in 2016, Jaguar has steadily built its reputation, team, and technology in the series.
This dedication paid off with a spectacular one-two victory in Monaco and the ultimate triumph as Teams’ World Champions on home turf in London at the 2023/24 season finale.
Here is everything to know about the Jaguar Type 00.
What is the Concept?
According to JLR’s Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern, the Jaguar Type 00 Vision Concept is “a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy”.
He added: “It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
“A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”
Costing around £100,000 without options, the first new Jaguar will be a four-door GT that is inspired by the Type 00 and is expected to hit the road in 2026.
The ‘Type’ prefix connects the new car to its predecessors and the championship-winning I-TYPE 6, while the ’00’ highlights its zero tailpipe emissions, thanks to its all-electric powertrain.
Two additional models will follow, all built on the innovative Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA) and inspired by the “foundation stone” Type 00.
Formula E Technology
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director at Jaguar’s headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, said:
“My primary interest in Formula E as a platform is in the technology innovation transfer.
“Unlike a lot of the other motorsport platforms, it’s a direct transfer [in Formula E], and we can take the technology directly from the racing cars, into our own road cars.”
Jaguar has promised that the new GT will be able to cover 478 miles WLTP on a single charge.
It will be capable of adding up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes when rapid charging.
Glover added: “Some of the technology [from GEN3] that we’re already benefiting from now, we wouldn’t have really thought about four or five years ago, and what we’ll be getting towards the end of GEN3 Evo and GEN4, will likely be even more exciting.
“Managing heat, managing efficiency, regeneration and range – these things are all super important for our road cars and Formula E is the most punishing environment feasible to develop these in.”
Jaguar Type 00 – Exterior
Before the Jaguar Type 00 was revealed, the British carmaker promised it would be “a copy of nothing”.
After its reveal, the electric car is unlike anything else even if it is just a concept.
Up close or from afar, the design challenges electric vehicle norms, embracing the spirit of classic performance cars.
Its long bonnet, sharply raked windscreen, flowing roofline, and boat-tail rear evokes timeless elegance.
Subtle nods to the iconic Jaguar E-type are evident, particularly in the rear quarters—a homage to the “pioneering” legend of Jaguar’s combustion-engine racing heyday.
Below the beltline, the bold, boxy wheel arches emerge seamlessly from the monolithic body, accommodating the concept’s striking 23-inch alloy wheels.
At the back, the tapering boat-tail design is accentuated by a glassless tailgate and a distinctive horizontal strikethrough detail that conceals full-width taillights.
Without a rear window, the Type 00 relies on rear-view cameras, discreetly housed behind the front wheels.
These are set within a strip of hand-finished brass etched with the legendary Jaguar ‘leaper’ logo, adding a bespoke touch to its innovative design.
Chief Exterior Designer Constantino Segui Gilabert said:
“Jaguar is no place for ordinary.
“When you see a new Jaguar for the first time, it must have a sense of awe, of never having been seen before.
“Type 00 commands attention, like all the best Jaguars of the past. It is a dramatic presence, channelling a unique spirit of British creativity and originality.”
Jaguar Type 00 – Interior
The Type 00 has striking butterfly doors and a unique ‘pantograph’ tailgate, revealing a sleek, minimalist design.
At its core, a hand-finished brass spine runs 3.2 metres through the cockpit, dividing two floating instrument panels that can retract for a full digital detox during drives.
Floating seats are mounted on a base of travertine stone, while a tactile wool-blend inspired by handwoven yarns covers the seats, soundbar, and flooring.
Enhancing the sensory experience, the car features a ‘Prism Case’ housed in a compartment between the front wheel arch and door.
This case contains three natural material “totems”—Brass, Travertine, and Alabaster—that allow occupants to customise the interior’s ambience.
By placing a totem in the centre console, the car adjusts its lighting, scent, sound, and screen graphics to reflect the chosen material’s essence.
Tom Holden, Chief Interior Designer, said: “Deployable technologies are a hallmark of the interior.
“Screens glide silently and theatrically from the dashboard, while powered stowage areas slide open softly on demand, revealing hidden splashes of exuberant colour.”
Chief Materiality Designer Mary Crisp stated that the choice of materials “represents bold pieces of art and creates a unique atmosphere”.
As testing for the camouflaged real-world Jaguar continues on UK roads, anticipation builds for its official debut in late 2025.
Until then, Jaguar remains firmly in the spotlight, battling for another World Championship and showcasing its bold, electrified vision for the future.
The Type 00 Vision Concept generated a lot of attention for its bold look as Jaguar accelerates into an all-electric era.
